Bullying is one of the most common problems youngsters face. It is referred to as an act of physically, emotionally or verbally intimidating another person. Bullying hurts and leads to lots of problems for the victims. Those who bully others are actually insecure people and bullying is a way for them to appear stronger and powerful. Bullies may have their own set of problems. It can be related to insecure environment at home, troubled relationship with parents and other shortcomings. In order to hide their insecurities they resort to such tactics to appear powerful and in control of the situation in front of their peers. Bullying can have devastating impact on the victim who is constantly targeted. It can lead to serious psychological problems in the future. The Case of Sandy Hook Massacre
In December 2012, a horrible incident took place when one of the students of Sandy Hook High School entered the premised of the school and shot dead 26 people including the members of teaching staff. Before heading to his school he had killed his mother. Later he shot himself on the head and died. This is just one of such incidents that have become a regular part of school violence in America. When the matter was investigated by the concerned authorities it was revealed that the perpetrator, Adam Lanza, had a very troubled past. He suffered from Asperger’s syndrome and he was often bullied by his classmates. He had become too obsessed with violence and murder that he kept photos of mutilated and murdered corpses of children. He had been too obsessed with violence that he had been planning the massacre since he was in just grade 5.
The Case of Thurston High School
Another tragic incident that shook entire American nation was Thurston High School shooting in which a boy named Kip Kinkel, a student of Thurston High School, killed his classmates. Before heading to school he killed both his parents. In this matter also thorough investigations revealed that Kip too had a troubled past where he was often bullied and teased by his schoolmates. He had a very strong desire to avenge the abuse he had suffered at the hands of his schoolmates for too long.
These two tragic incidents prove that bullying is not a very good thing to do. It affects those who bully as well as the victim. There should rules and regulations to curb bullying problem in schools to avoid such kind of horrific incidents.
